Hurricane Earl still howling
Dare County is continuing to feel the effects of Hurricane Earl as it passes the Outer Banks. At a.m. this morning, the center of the storm was 85 miles off shore just east of Cape Hatteras. Strong winds and heavy rains will continue in Dare County until approximately 10 a.m. as Hurricane Earl moves away from the area.

Lowe's goes before commissioners next
Whether a Lowe's Home Improvement Store can be built in Kill Devil Hills will be considered and perhaps decided by the town's board of commissioners during its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. In the meantime, opponents of the project are urging residents to sign an online petition aimed at stopping the project.
