Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella’ opens March 9 at the COA Performing Arts Center

Experience the timeless magic of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” presented by College of The Albemarle Student Theatre (COAST) Players. Performances begin Thursday, March 9th, running through Sunday, March 19th, at COA – Elizabeth City in the Performing Arts Center (PAC), 1208 N. Road Street.

This classic tale features an updated script, written by Douglas Carter Beane from the Broadway premiere in 2013, and Oscar Hammerstein’s classic songs from the original show, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” and “There’s Music in You.”

“I am overjoyed to present “Cinderella” on the PAC stage, especially since this year marks the 80th anniversary of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s legendary collaboration,” said director and drama instructor Sandra Krueger. “The combination of talent both on stage and behind the scenes has been truly inspirational and a potent reminder that nothing is ever “Impossible” for our theatre family. The new book infuses this classic show with levity and wit, and the actors are bringing their characters to life brilliantly.”

“Cinderella” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. Concord Theatricals also supply all authorized performance materials. More information may be found at their website: www.concordtheatricals.com

Krueger wants to provide a fairy tale experience for “Cinderella” enthusiasts.  She, along with other COA faculty and staff, are hosting a “Princess Tea Party” event on February 11th at the Performing Arts Center.  The event, advertised through COA’s social media platforms and various other COA resources, only has a limited number of tickets available.  For tickets and additional information, please visit www.albemarle.edu/pac.

The College will also provide a “Glass Slipper Scavenger Hunt” beginning Friday, March 3rd, through Sunday, March 5th.  Individuals finding the slippers will exchange the slipper for a ticket to the performance.   The “Glass Slipper Scavenger Hunt” will be posted on COA’s Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts and will include hunts at all four COA campuses.

Advertisements are available for the “Cinderella” program.  Performance dates, advertising and ticket information are available at www.albemarle.edu/pac. Tickets may also be purchased by calling the box office at 252.335.9050.
