The Monarch Lighthouse Club of Currituck are the recipients of the 2022 Grace M. Austin Award.
Mrs. Austin served as the Currituck County Librarian from 1962 until 1983, which makes her the longest standing librarian in the history of the Currituck County Public Library. In 1999, Mrs. Austin’s daughter, Beth Childers, and son-in-law, John, established the Grace M. Austin Award. The award is presented annually by the Currituck County Public Library Board of Trustees to an individual or group who has contributed in a special way to the Currituck County Public Library.
As libraries frequently find themselves understaffed and concerned with budgets, library volunteers, like the Monarch Lighthouse Club of Currituck, play a vital role in a library’s success. This group of exceptional men and women come faithfully to the library every other week with brilliant smiles on their faces ready to pitch in and help where needed. They engage in helping the staff keep our library looking clean and sharp by dusting the shelves, sweeping the patio and cleaning windows. Monarch Lighthouse Club of Currituck has ensured our building is in great condition.
Congratulations to the Monarch Lighthouse Club of Currituck and thank you immensely for your contributions to the library and community. “Monarch Lighthouse Club of Currituck” has been added to the Grace M. Austin Plaque and a book, Animalium by Katie Scott, has been added to the Barco collection in their honor.
