Manteo, Kitty Hawk make World Atlas’ ‘7 Best Small Towns In N.C. For A Weekend Escape’

“North Carolina offers the best of several worlds. Bordered by mountains to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, North Carolina is the ultimate vacation destination for those who want to experience different types of geography,” proclaims outlet World Atlas, who has named Manteo and Kitty Hawk two of the seven towns in their recently-published, “7 Best Small Towns In North Carolina For A Weekend Escape.”

“The charming town of Manteo is the ideal weekend escape for those who love being near water,” writes contributor Elizabeth Arnold of the town’s geographical location.

“Start your weekend exploring the town’s picturesque marina and waterfront, which is home to the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse. Discover local history at the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum, and take a walk out to the lighthouse to get a view of fishermen and other bay activity.”

As for Kitty Hawk, the outlet takes no time to highlight the small town’s famed notoriety for it’s association with aviation.

“Picturesque Kitty Hawk is well-known for being the location of the Wright Brothers’ first flight. This charming coastal town offers several public-access beaches to enjoy during a weekend getaway.”

As for amenities? You guessed it. A visit to the Wright Brothers’ National Memorial. A visit to which a Kitty Hawk trip “would not be complete without.”

“This site features a towering granite structure depicting the brothers and their airplane, as well as visitors center and a museum featuring both historic and modern day aviation exhibits.”

Manteo and Kitty Hawk are in the company of Edenton, Highlands, Banner Elk, Holly Springs, and Chapel Hill.
