Camden County is excited to host an inaugural Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom event on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Camden County Public Library and Community Room.
This family friendly celebration will include a speaker, music and dance, educational booths, art display, food trucks, face painting, Camden County Heritage Museum tours, children’s activities and giveaways.
Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates African American culture and heritage. This event will be a great opportunity for the community to come together to learn more about this historic day while enjoying fun activities.
Mrs. Waverly Creecy Knight, author and retired Camden County educator, along with Dr. Walter Swan of Elizabeth City State University will kick the event off at 10am in the Community Room. An art display, in collaboration with Arts of the Albemarle, celebrating local Black artists will also be available throughout the day to enjoy. Local churches will provide inspirational music, song and dance in the afternoon from 1-2pm.
The first #100 attendees can receive a FREE shaved ice beverage from the Neon Lemon beverage truck, courtesy of Dominion Energy.
Camden’s Juneteenth event is supported by the Camden County Public Library & Friends Group, Camden County Tourism Development Authority, NC Arts Council, Arts of the Albemarle and Dominion Energy. The Camden County Public Library is located at 118 NC Hwy 343 N, Camden, NC 27921.
