On Wednesday, June 28, from noon until 2:00, at Downtown Books in Manteo, Outer Banks own James D. “Keeper James” Charlet will be signing and personalizing copies of his best-selling book Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks: Dramatic Rescues and Fantastic Wrecks in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, Globe Pequot Press. Downtown Books is located at 103 Sir Walter Raleigh St, Manteo, NC 27954, near the Old Courthouse.
Keeper James is a reenactor of the United States Life-Saving Service (1871-1915), the direct predecessor of today’s U.S. Coast Guard. The book is primarily about the dramatic rescues by these Forgotten Heroes of America who valiantly earned the nicknames “Storm Warriors,” “Angels in Oilskins,” and Saviors in the Surf.”
Keeper James’ book is consistently being sold out at the Cape Hatteras and Bodie Island Eastern National Book Stores. Keeper James will be in full dress Keeper uniform along with his wife, Miz Linda, in Victorian attire. They will also provide free special bookmarks with the place and date that will accompany each book.
