The Dare County Tax Department has announced that 2023 real estate and personal property tax bills were mailed to or electronically issued to property owners on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. Dare County tax bills can be paid online, by phone, by mail, in person or via auto-draft.
Taxes on real estate, business personal property and individually owned personal property are due each year on September 1. Payment without interest can be made through January 5 of the following year. The Dare County Tax Department also offers a convenient payment plan option. If you choose to take advantage of the payment plan option, you may divide out your payments in any manner that works for you, as long as the final payment is U.S. postmarked no later than January 5 of the following year.
Pay Online:
The 2023 tax bills can conveniently be paid online with a credit card or e-check. In order to pay online, you will need to search for your bill by the parcel ID number, property owner’s name or the address of the property. Online bill pay is now available for all tax years. Please note that a convenience fee equal to 2.95% of the payment amount will be applied to your transaction with a minimum fee of $2.50.
Pay by Mail:
To pay your tax bill by mail, please make your check payable to Dare County Tax Collection and send it to: Dare County Tax Collection, P.O. Box 538310, Atlanta, GA 30353-8310.
Pay in Person:
Tax bills can be paid in person from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at the Dare County Tax Department office, which is located in Room 166 of the Dare County Justice Center located at 962 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo. For your convenience, a drop box for payments that are being made by check is also located by the flagpole in front of the Dare County Justice Center.
Tax bill payments can also be made at the following Dare County Water Department locations:

- North Reverse Osmosis Water Plant: 600 Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills
- Cape Hatteras Water Treatment Plant: 50225 Water Association Road in Frisco. (Please note that this location is closed for lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.)
Payments made by check or cash are accepted with no convenience fees. Payments made by Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express (credit and debit) will be charged a credit card surcharge of 2.95% of the payment amount.
Pay via Auto-Draft:
Tax bills for real estate and personal property taxes can also be paid via a direct auto-draft from a bank account and divided into four payments. Auto-draft withdrawals will be made on the 5th or 20th of each month in the amount you specify until the tax amount is paid in full.
A tax payment option plan and an Authorization Agreement for Automatic Deposits agreement are enclosed with the 2023 tax bills that were mailed on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. If you are interested in paying the four payments for your real estate or personal property taxes via auto-draft, fill out the Authorization Agreement for Automatic Deposits form and return it to: Dare County Tax Department, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954. Please be sure to include your current contact information as well as a voided check with your form.
