The Town of Kill Devil Hills hosted a grand opening on August 3 to celebrate the official grand opening of their new splash pad and improvements at Meekins Field Park.
The event included a welcome and ribbon cutting from the Town’s Board of Commissioners, delicious treats from Island Snowball Company and Duck Donuts, and yummy hotdogs grilled by Town staff.
There were also special Kill Devil Hills giveaways to commemorate the occasion. Overall, what the event featured the most was many smiling faces and joyous laughs from children and community members.
The following verbiage was offered by the Town in their August 7, 2023 newsletter:
“The Town is beyond proud to present our community with the first Splash Pad in Dare County. Not only do we have an awesome Splash Pad, but Meekins Field Park has had many other recent upgrades, including brand new playground equipment (and we’re in the process of completing a fun new play area for toddlers, too!), a new restroom building, with a family bathroom that hosts a changing table, drinking fountains and a water bottle refill station, a new picnic shelter with tables, sidewalks throughout the park, upgraded lighting, and an expanded parking lot and new drop off circle. Meekins Field has also expanded beyond just a one-sport-park, as there is now a large open play field, which can be used for all kinds of activities like soccer, lacrosse, football, kickball, or just a good old game of catch. And, the ever-popular courts for tennis, and now pickleball, located at this park are undergoing renovations and will be available soon!”
