Tail Waggin’ Tuesday: August 15, 2023 - OBX Today

Are you in search of the perfect fur-ever friend? A new addition to the family, perhaps? OBX Today in partnership with the Outer Banks SPCA is proud to present “Tail Waggin’ Tuesdays.”

Each Tuesday, browse our provided selection of videos and images and follow along as we showcase a variety of pets that are currently awaiting adoption at our local animal shelter.

This week’s featured pets are Fawn, Grandpa Joe, Mars, and JJ & John B. Verbiage is provided by shelter manager Leann Saunders:

Fawn
Fawn is about two years old and desperately needs a foster home. She was brought into our care last week and is really struggling with anxiety here. She does well with other dogs her size but no small animals. Fawn is house trained, could go home with kids, and knows some basic commands. She was owned before coming into the shelter and this transition has not been easy on her.

Grandpa Joe
The shelter received Grandpa Joe a while back but he just got brought back into our care. We are so sad that he is back in the shelter but it seemed to be the best thing for him. The family that had him was trying to crate train him but he would rather be able to free roam but the apartment she lived in wasn’t allowed. Grandpa Joe loves everyone and everything. He has such an easy going and fun personality you can’t help but love him. He is completely deaf  and did have dental work done but is feeling great and ready to find a home to retire in. Ideally the home would have minimum stairs and a fenced in backyard.

Mars
Mars came into our care from another shelter back in March because he was at risk for being euthanized and we had a kennel open to try and help him. Little did we know that Mar’s health was not good. We were very lucky to find a foster that has been willing to keep him and take him to all of his vet appointments but we just got news that we aren’t sure how adoptable he is and the medications he is on may be long term. We are hoping to find him a forever home that he can send the rest of his days in. He does well with small animals including cats. He is very loving and is house trained. It’s dogs like Mars we have to work together with our community to help save. We are so fortunate for the support we are shown! We are hopeful for Mars!

JJ & John B
These two kittens were brought into our care in June and are still learning to trust humans but they are coming around and enjoying the free roaming kitten room. The rest of their litter has already been adopted so we hope these two won’t be here much longer. They are available for a foster to adopt in hopes in a home environment they show more of their personality because this place is a little scary for them. Their adoption fees have been paid for by Carter’s Glass Insurance Agency.

To adopt Fawn, Grandpa Joe, Mars, JJ & John B, or any of the other shelter animals, visit the Outer Banks SPCA Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or give them a call at 252-475-5620.
