Dr. Michelle Lewis. (Submitted)

Please join Dr. Michelle Lewis on September 14 at 7:00 p.m. for a talk entitled “Justice Seeking and Making: Finding our Places in the Modern Environmental Movement.”  Michelle Lewis will talk about centering ourselves in creating more environmentally just communities. We will look at the environmental movement, it’s parallels to other justice centered movements, and how all of us can be more engaged to move environmental causes forward.

This presentation is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks (UUCOB) and will take place at their meetinghouse: 831 Herbert Perry Road, on the corner of Herbert Perry and Kitty Hawk Roads in Kitty Hawk. The program is free and open to the public.

Rev. Dr. Lewis is the Executive Director of the Peace Garden Project and also leads spiritual formation groups at Duke Divinity School. She is passionate about the intersection of religion and the environment, as well as helping people and communities reach their full potential through creativity that engages the spiritual and the natural worlds. She is an award-winning filmmaker and hosted the Radio Show Unpacking Faith that examined connecting our spirituality with daily life. Dr. Lewis is the first person of color to hold joint Master’s degrees in Religion and the Environment from Yale, and she completed her Doctoral work at Emory University. In her free time, she writes, rides her bike, tells jokes, and bakes cakes.

The UUCOB is honored to host a speaker of such high esteem. Please join us!
