As a part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs 2022-2024 special project focusing on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, the Roanoke Island Woman’s Club (RIWC) will soon donate a bench to the Jockey’s Ridge State Park.
The Roanoke Island Woman’s Club has been collecting plastic bags to recycle. They are working in conjunction with Trex. For every 500 pounds of bags they send, Trex will send them a bench to be used in the community.
RIWC is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of North Carolina. The State President’s Special Project for the administration (2022-2024) is the Mountain to Sea Trail. RIWC decided that they would donate a bench to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, since it is the end of the 1175-mile trail. This ceremony will take place at Jockey’s Ridge State Park Visitor’s Center at 4:30 p.m. on September 28, 2023. Please come out and join us for this event.
After the dedication ceremony, Friends of the MST staff and our local partners will meet at a local restaurant to be announced at the event. We invite you to stop by for drinks or dinner to continue to celebrate. You are responsible for your own tab.
The following day, September 29, 2023, Friends of the Mountain to Sea Trail will have a dedication and ribbon cutting for the Terminus Monument at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Join Friends of the Mountain to Sea Trail, Friends of Jockey’s Ridge, Roanoke Island Woman’s Club, and Outer Banks Woman’s Club for this event. Festivities begin at 9:30 am with refreshments and the program begins at 10:00.
