The Democratic Women of North Carolina (DWNC) has honored longtime Manteo resident Marion Midgett with a 2023 STAR Award. Midgett received this award for her “outstanding dedication, tireless work, and loyal commitment in support of the values and principles of the Democratic Party, its causes, and candidates.” It was presented at the DWNC’s 63nd Annual State Convention, September 22-24, in Charlotte, NC.
A former English and Career and Technical Education teacher, Midgett serves as Education Director for the Dare County League of Women Voters (LWV). Along with the Democratic Women of Dare (DWOD) and Dare Dems, Midgett organizes volunteers, materials and space for Dare Democrats for greeting voters outside the polls. She has served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Manteo Precinct since 2012.
Beverly Parker, President of the Democratic Women of Dare, says of Midgett, “She is a tireless worker on behalf of our Democratic Women of Dare chapter, the Manteo Precinct, and the Dare County Democratic Party. If you want something done and done well, you ask Marion.”
Midgett thanked her chapter for their nomination. “Being recognized by my peers is the highest honor,” she said.
The Democratic Women of Dare helps elect Democratic candidates, especially women, to public office at the local, state, and national levels; and promotes and supports legislation that will bring economic equality to women.
