Are you in search of the perfect fur-ever friend? A new addition to the family, perhaps? OBX Today in partnership with the Outer Banks SPCA is proud to present “Tail Waggin’ Tuesdays.”
Each Tuesday, browse our provided selection of videos and images and follow along as we showcase a variety of pets that are currently awaiting adoption at our local animal shelter.
This week’s featured pets are a selection of the SPCA’s seniors: Kyrie, Queenie, Pirate, and Mars. Verbiage is provided by shelter manager Leann Saunders:
Kyrie
Kyrie was adopted from here about six years ago and was estimated to be two years old at that time. We guess he is around 8/9 years old now. He is house trained, loves to play with his favorite ball, and get all of the belly rubs. We truly can’t understand why Kyrie is still here. His favorite thing to do is relax and go for car rides. He does not require a lot of attention and really just wants to lay in the sun. If you are looking to give a senior a loving home to retire in, we think Kyrie is the best fit! He previously lived with another female dog and can be a little selective but we think if you have another dog with the same energy level he would fit right in.
Queenie
Queenie is about 10 years old and was surrendered into our care after dealings with Animal Control. Queenie lived inside as a family pet and was suddenly tied outside on a chain and was super confused as to what she did wrong. We are so glad to have Queenie here, where she can lay on her dog bed, soak up the sun, and play fetch. Queenie deservers a great life with a family who loves her and we can’t wait to give her that. She is house trained and very easy going!
Pirate
Pirate is about 7 years old and was brought into our care by Animal Control after he was found tied to a pole under the Pirates Cove bridge. The dog he was tied with was adopted today so we are hopeful it will be Pirates turn next. Pirate loves people and does well with kids. He wants to be the center of attention at all times and would love to be the only animal in the home where he can soak up all of the love. Pirate walks great on the leash and never messes up his kennel.
Mars
Mars was brought into our care back in March from another shelter who no longer had enough space for him. He is about 6 years old. At that time we had no idea Mars health was declining. We found out he was extremely heartworm positive and was in the early stages of heart failure. We are very fortunate to have found a foster who could open up her home, take him to vet appointments, and be able to feel the love of a family. Mars loves to roll in the grass, gets along with small dogs and cats, and walks great on the leash. He is house trained, crate trained, and would love to find a forever home that he can live the rest of his days in. We understand it is not easy taking on a dog that has medical needs but we know Mars has so much love to give and are hopeful there is someone out there.
To adopt Kyrie, Queenie, Pirate, Mars, or any of the other shelter animals, visit the Outer Banks SPCA Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or give them a call at 252-475-5620.
