The Board of Directors of the Outer Banks Relief Foundation are pleased to announce they have been selected to join the ranks of Albemarle Area United Way’s certified partner agencies.

“The Outer Banks Relief Foundation has championed United Way’s coordinated information and referral services — the 211 phone hotline and the nc211.org searchable database – ever since they became available in our community in 2013,” says Relief Foundation executive director Patty McKenna. “Now as a certified partner agency, the Outer Banks Relief Foundation will participate in Albemarle Area United Way’s coordinated fundraising and volunteerism programs, which will enhance the services we provide to local families. Not every charitable nonprofit earns this opportunity, so we are extremely proud to be selected.”

Bill Blake, executive director Albemarle Area United Way, added, “To qualify an agency must be a 501(c)3 in the human services space within the nine-county area of Northeastern NC that Albemarle Area Unite Way serves. Partner agencies must also exude solid leadership both from a board and staff perspective. Lastly, they must be collaborators. As a partner agency, the Outer Banks Relief Foundation will help tell the collective story of the important work we’re all doing to serve our neighbors by Living United.”

The Outer Banks Relief Foundation assists local families when tragedy strikes. In 2022, 148 Outer Banks households received $413,000 of assistance so that community members’ basic needs are met during cancer battles or after house fires, for instance.
