Elizabeth City – College of The Albemarle Student Theatre (COAST) will present “The Little Mermaid” on March 20-24, 2024. The production is licensed by Music Theatre International.
According to mtishows.com/disneys-the-little-mermaid,
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”
Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid offers a fantastic creative opportunity for rich costumes and sets, as well as the chance to perform some of the best-known songs from the past 30 years.

“The Little Mermaid” was one of the first movies I remember watching with my grandparents, and when I was younger,” said Mary Elysse Santa, COA Drama Instructor/Director. “I remember wanting to be just like Ariel: brave, daring, and adventurous. It’s so fun to bring this story to the stage and put a new spin on it, and combine my love for roller skating with the wonderful songs we all know and love. I’m so glad to get to be a part of their world, and I hope that everyone will have a magical time watching “The Little Mermaid.”
Santa wants to provide our younger “The Little Mermaid” enthusiasts an opportunity to visit and take photos with the cast, make crafts and enjoy light refreshments during a “Splash Bash” event. The cast of “The Little Mermaid” and other members of COAST Players are hosting the “Splash Bash: An Underwater Princess Party” event on February 17, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. The event, advertised through COA’s social media platforms and various other COA resources, has a limited number of tickets available. Special ticket packages are available to include this event and the performances. For tickets and additional information, please visit www.albemarle.edu.
