Dare County Soil & Water Conservation District accepting applications for 2024 Resource Conservation Workshop - OBX Today

The Dare County Soil & Water Conservation District (DSWCD) is sending a Dare County student to the 2024 Resource Conservation Workshop (RCW) at North Carolina State University in Raleigh from June 16-21, 2024—a $575 value—at no charge.

The Resource Conservation Workshop was started during the 1960s to provide students with a glimpse at the fields of natural resource conservation. Students should be interested in a career in natural resource management, such as agriculture, fisheries/wildlife conservation, forestry, and related fields.

This opportunity is open to rising high school freshmen through rising high school seniors. Graduating seniors are not eligible. One Dare County student and an alternate will be selected.

Students must fill out the application by clicking the button linked below. Submit the application to DSWCD Community Conservationist Charlie Sanders at Charlie.Sanders@DareNC.gov. Please use the subject line “Resource Conservation Workshop, <Student Name>”. Be sure to include first and last names.

Applications may be printed and returned in person to the DSWCD office at the Dare County Administration Building (954 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo) or mailed to the Dare County Soil & Water Conservation District, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954.

Applications should be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024. The DSWCD board will vote at its May meeting (Tuesday, May 14, 2024) to choose the student and an alternate. The chosen student will be notified through the email address that they provide on their application. They will be expected to meet with DSWCD staff before going to the workshop and give a short oral report about their experience.
