Town of Duck announces annual 4th of July Parade Grand Marshal - OBX Today
(Town of Duck)

The Town of Duck is pleased to announce Nancy Caviness as the 2024 4th of July Parade and Community Celebration Grand Marshal, scheduled for Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

While living in Duck for 27 years (1995-2022), Nancy Caviness dedicated herself to the community by serving as a Town Council member, a Duck Volunteer Fire Department member, and the (now-retired) Race Director for the ADVICE 5K Turkey Trot. She is an Emeritus member of the Outer Banks Community Foundation (OBCF) and represented the Town of Duck as a liaison to the Outer Banks Visitor’s Bureau on the Dare County Tourism Board.

After moving away in 2022, her commitment to the Outer Banks community continues with the Annual Advice 5K Turkey Trot Fund. This fund, established in 2013, “supports grants for charitable projects that improve and support the health and wellness of all the people of the Outer Banks of North Carolina” (OBCF Donation Webpage). Some of Nancy’s fondest memories of the parade include the many years that she would ride with Pat Scarlett, fellow Duck Fire Department Volunteer, in the now retired Utility 11 vehicle, affectionately named “Rock ‘n Roll, Lights and Sirens!”. She recalls the fun of passing the judges on the former Advice 5C Bed & Breakfast porch and waving to friends and neighbors along the route.

Nancy is honored to be named Grand Marshal of the 2024 4th of July Parade and is looking forward to participating once again. She also would like to remind everyone “Please, no fireworks!”

No part of the parade takes place on Duck Road (NC 12) nor is Duck Road closed. All traffic lanes will be open. The parade itself will last from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Please plan accordingly if you are traveling through the Town of Duck on the morning of July 4. Businesses are asked to advise staff and delivery vehicles of the anticipated congestion and potential delays.
