Fourth of July Treat: Keeper James’ Island Convenience book signing, wine & beer tasting coming July 9 – OBX Today

Fourth of July Treat: Keeper James’ Island Convenience book signing, wine & beer tasting coming July 9 - OBX Today

On Tuesday, July 9 from noon to 2:00 p.m., Keeper James will be signing and personalizing copies of his book, Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks: Dramatic Rescues and Fantastic Wrecks in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, Globe Pequot Press. Holiday book signings there have become a tradition.

We are celebrating America’s first national patriots and heroes. “America’s Forgotten Heroes” followed a century later: The United States Life-Saving Service. This book is mostly about that group making dramatic shipwreck rescues. From 1871 until 1915, during their 44-year history, nationwide, using no more than small, open, wooden boats and cork life belts, often in violent and dangerous storms, they responded to over 178,000 lives in peril from shipwrecks…of which they saved, OVER 177,000… one survivor at a time; yet, somehow, America forgot these peaceful heroes. In 1915, the United States Life-Saving Service merged with the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service and was renamed the United States Coast Guard.

This book has been a national best-seller and has been a popular local book signing event at the Island Convenience store in Rodanthe, so hop on in!

To complete the treat, there will be a wine and beer tasting at the same time.

The Volume II sequel was submitted recently and is scheduled for release about a year from now. Time to buy Volume 1 now. Look for the set next year!
