Dare County Sheriff's Office makes drug-related arrest during traffic stop - OBX Today

On August 25, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, B-District, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Hwy 64 just west of the Midway Intersection. The vehicle was initially stopped for speeding in a designated work zone.

During the stop, a Dare County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was deployed. The K-9 alerted officers to the presence of a controlled substance within the vehicle. Following the alert, a search of the vehicle was conducted, leading to the recovery and seizure of Psilocybin Mushrooms, Marijuana, and related paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle, Kyle Orville Laviana, 28, of West Suffield, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance. Laviana was also cited for speeding, as well as possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He has been assigned a secured bond amounting to $4,000.
