On Thursday, November 21, Albemarle Area United Way will gather to celebrate with the community. The Board of Directors for the organization are pleased to host a dinner award program to honor Andy & Karin Montero, successful restauranteurs who have made it their mission to give back in the Albemarle Area.

“We consider it a privilege to honor Andy & Karin with our fifth Philanthropy Award. They have quietly given dollars, donated time and talent to benefit many, especially nonprofits, in our community,” said Bill Blake, Executive Director for the nine-county regional United Way. “Andy & Karin epitomize the meaning of servant leadership.” Blake added.

Being a coastal community, the Keel Club has significant meaning. The keel of a ship is the main timber of the ship’s bottom that extends from bow to stern and supports the whole frame. The keel is designed carefully and prepared through the efforts of many people working together for a common purpose. United Way is stronger because of these generous leadership donors.

“Please make plans to join us for an evening of celebration and recognition of our partners who are living the United Way’s mission” stated Tammy Sawyer, Albemarle Area United Way Board Chair. “National Philanthropy Day is November 15th so we felt our timing coincided nicely in terms of honoring the Monteros with this award.”

The evening will include a cocktail reception, musical entertainment and dinner catered by Sagos on the River. Join us at 5:30 pm at the Seven Sounds Brewing in their historic building on Water Street. Corporate tables and sponsorships are available. Individual tickets are $65 and can be purchased online at aaunitedway.org, by calling 252-333-1510, or visiting the AAUW office at 1413 Parkview Drive, Elizabeth City.
