The Rogallo Foundation proudly hosted its annual Brewtag event on October 26, drawing in a packed field at the Soundside Event Site. This unique fundraising event celebrated craft beer and community spirit while raising essential funds to support the Rogallo Foundation’s mission. Thanks to the generous contributions from local businesses and participants, Brewtag raised (approximately) over $70,000 this year, surpassing last year’s record!
Our Sponsors
President of the Rogallo Foundation, John Harris, said he was “overjoyed with the community and visitor support of the event, and wanted to specifically thank our sponsors. This event would not be possible without the generous and continued support of our sponsors” – the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau; Top Gun Sponsor, R.A. Hoy; Beer Garden Sponsor, Towne Bank; Night Hawk Sponsor, First National Bank; Brewcard Sponsor, Seaside Vacations; Organizing Sponsor, Kitty Hawk Kites; and over 50 more! The Rogallo Foundation is grateful for each sponsor, volunteer, participant, and all attendees.
More on Brewtag
Participants enjoyed an exciting day filled with various craft breweries and local wineries, live music from local bands, and engaging activities for all ages. The highlight of the event was the signature Brewtag competition, where teams showcased their creativity in combining empty kegs with man-powered aircrafts!
We had 12 teams in our keg flight portion of the event, with team members from all along the East Coast! This year, we had two flight classes: Rogallo Class and Unlimited Class. First place for Rogallo Class was awarded to HQ Kites with a 76’6” flight, and first place for Unlimited Class was awarded to Flying High Again with a 133’9” flight. Our Flying Chicken Award, given to the most spirited team, was awarded to Wrong Brothers and Sista!
Proceeds from the Outer Banks Brewtag benefit The Rogallo Foundation. The Rogallo Foundation was created in 1992 with the mission of honoring Francis and Gertrude Rogallo, preserving their priceless records, artifacts, and research; interpreting their incredible story of the invention of the flexible wing that led to the development of hang gliding, paragliding, flexible wing ultalighting, sport parachuting, kiteboarding, and kiting.
Plans for next year’s Brewtag are already underway, promising even more exciting activities and community engagement. Stay tuned for updates and details on how to get involved! For more information about Brewtag and the Rogallo Foundation, please visit www.obxbrewtag.com/.
