The Dare County Parks and Recreation Department has announced that, due to a parking lot repaving project at Family Recreation Park, the Dare County Youth Center—as well as all facilities and fields throughout the park located at 602 Mustian Street—will be closed beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024 and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024.
During this time, all regularly scheduled programs and activities—including pickleball and the after-school program—at Family Recreation Park’s facilities (both indoor and outdoor) will be canceled. Family Recreation Park’s tennis courts will remain open and accessible while the parking lot is being repaved; however, onsite parking will not be available during the project.*
*After hours public parking is available at the Dare County Water Department (600 Mustian Street), Kill Devil Hills Library (400 Mustian Street), Thomas A. Baum Senior Center (300 Mustian Street), First Flight Elementary School (107 Veterans Drive).

Dare County Youth Center Gymnasium Closure Reminder:
As a reminder, the gymnasium located inside the Dare County Youth Center at Family Recreation Park in Kill Devil Hills has been closed since Monday, October 28, 2024 for a three-week period to undergo a roof replacement project that is currently underway.
During this time (from Monday, October 28, 2024 until 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024), all activities that take place within the gymnasium—including volleyball and pickleball—have been canceled.
As previously reported, the Dare County Youth Center gymnasium will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, when the roof replacement project is complete, and all activities will resume with their regularly scheduled operating hours until 12 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, when Family Recreation Park facilities and fields will close for the start of the parking lot repaving project.
Needs Assessment Survey Reminder and Deadline:
The Dare County Parks and Recreation Department recently announced the launch of a needs assessment survey that will be used to gather feedback about the community’s preferences for recreational offerings—and will aid in the prioritization of future Dare County Parks and Recreation projects, programming and initiatives. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, November 22, 2024.
Dare County residents and property owners are strongly encouraged to provide their input by participating in the needs assessment survey before it closes.
