4-H Youth shines in prestigious public speaking competitions  - OBX Today
Emerson Page. (North Carolina Cooperative Extension)

Emerson Page, an outstanding 4-H member from Currituck County, NC, has recently completed a series of highly competitive public speaking contests across the southeastern US. Showcasing her talent and poise, she delivered  a compelling, impactful presentation titled “The Silent Struggle.”  Emerson earned the opportunity to compete in these National level contests by winning the Gold Medal in the NC 4-H Horse Public Speaking competition this past July.

At the Southern Regional 4-H Championship held in Perry, GA in August 2024, she captivated the judges and earned a 2nd place medal with her articulate and passionate presentation on wellness, stress and burnout of competitive horse show participants.

Building on that momentum, Emerson took the stage at the prestigious All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio. This event, known as the largest single-breed horse show in the world, featured participants from across the nation. Competing against some very skilled young speakers, Emerson demonstrated exceptional poise and confidence resulting in a 1st Place finish.

The journey culminated at the Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-up in Louisville, KY, where Emerson showcased her talent to a diverse panel of judges and attendees. Her presentation earned her third place honors in the nation, adding to Emerson’s impressive record of achievements in 4-H public speaking.

Emerson’s dedication to refining her public speaking skills and representing North Carolina and Currituck 4-H with pride is truly commendable.  Her achievements stand as a testament to her hard work and determination to succeed. Congratulations!

The annual public speaking contest is open to all Currituck County youth. For information on this or any other 4-H program, contact the 4-H & Youth Development Agent, Sherry Fischlschweiger at 252-232-2262.
